Metro Falls 3-0 on Road to New York Contour United

Published Apr 26, 2021

UNIONDALE, NY (April 26, 2021) - Metro fell for a second consecutive week in UPSL play, this time to division leader New York Contour United (NYCU). The loss drops the club's record to 1-0-2 and pits the team in 9th place in division standings.

The hosts were coming off of back to back wins to start the spring campaign and were the aggressors early from the first whistle. After a nervy start to the match, Metro settled into the game at about a quarter of an hour's mark. Strong wing play on both flanks earned Metro a few free kicks that should have seen the visitors take the lead. The remainder of the half saw the two teams battle back and forth with the center official handing out cautions to both sides before heading into the break scoreless.

The second half would see Metro nearly make an immediate impact when a ball from Hubert Dul found Nelson Luna arriving late at the edge of the box. The winger steadied himself before beating the defender and getting off a toe poke that just missed the far post.

The missed chances would prove costly for Metro when a through ball from a NYCU midfielder found Radamel Reneau in behind the back line and alone with Patryk Siwiec. The striker would make no mistake, slotting the ball past the keeper and putting up the hosts 1-0. NYCU would not look back from there, capitalizing on poor defensive play from Metro with Reneau claiming a hat trick on the way to NYCU's 3-0 victory.

Metro would continue to battle on, coming close to finding the back of the net late in the half when substitute Tomasz Kwiatkowski's header bounced off the crossbar.

Metro now returns home from the loss preaparing the week ahead before welcoming Sons of Queens to Athenia Steel Park on May 1st. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
